The Government in India Asks Social Media Companies to Screen Content

The Indian government met with social media companies including Google and Facebook to discuss prescreening user content before it goes live on their respective websites. Executives from the companies organized a dicussion with telecommunications minister Kapil Sibal in order to negotiate the possibility of removing “disparaging” and “inflammatory” content before users are allowed to put it online. Microsoft and Yahoo representatives were also present at the meeting, although no consensus was reached. Netflix Predicts Internet-Streaming Videos Will Overtake Cable in a Few Years

Internet-streamed video will overtake cable to dominate home video viewing within three to five years, Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings predicted Tuesday, with stiffer competition to come.
Hastings said that the rapid growth in high-volume home internet links over fiber optic cables will boost consumer use of on-demand viewing services over traditional cable viewing.

Facebook Plans Record IPO Worth $100 Billion

Facebook Inc. is planning to raise more $10 billion as an initial public offering adding values to the largest social-networking site of the world, a person concerned with the offering said.

Facebook may file for IPO well before the year ends, said the same person declining to reveal his identity. Actual timing for filing remains undetermined yet, the person added.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin and his wife have donated $500,000 to the Wikimedia Foundation that runs free online encyclopedia Wikipedia.

According to AFP, the grant was made by the Brin Wojcicki Foundation founded by Brin and his wife, Anne Wojcicki, the co-founder of 23andMe, a personal genetics company, the Brin Wojcicki Foundation said in a statement on Friday, November 18.

The non-profit Wikimedia Foundation launched its annual fundraising drive this week and visitors to Wikipedia.org are currently met with an appeal for donations from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales.

Google donated $2 million to the Wikimedia Foundation last year.

In its march to become a portal to the entire internet, Warner Brothers will begin streaming movies on Facebook to test out whether the social network’s 600-plus million users will be willing to pay to stream new movies from within the social networking site’s virtual walls.

There was flood of porn on the Facebook for past few days. Facebook authorities say that it happened due to a hack and some web browsers lead to this flood of porn and violent images and more graphic content which should not have been there.

Spokesman of Facebook Frederic Wolens said that their security team had worked overnight to know the cause of the spam and by Wednesday all those spam has been eliminated. The images that were being shown include hardcore porn, Photoshop edited images of celebrities including Justin Bieber and they were all exposed in sexual positions.
