Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Demo Reviewed
January 20, 2012
The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (KoAR) demo was released on Steam and I had a chance to put about an hour into it. I’ve been hard on the game in the past for it’s very generic nature in the marketing spins produced by it’s developer 38 Studios. Having played the demo now, I am still worried the title is a little bit too generic fantasy to rise above the field. However, there were a couple bright spots that gave me some hope for the game.
KoAR starts as almost any RPG starts by providing an origin story for the player’s character. In this case, the player’s avatar died on a foreign battlefield and their body dumped into the Well of Souls. As luck wou...
Indian Government May Ditch Aakash Tablet
January 13, 2012
The foot in the mouth minister Kapil Sibal who bear the credit of launching half baked products and call for Internet censorship may pull plugs off yet another of his projects — this time its Android based Aakash Tablet.
According to reports India’s Union human resource development (HRD) ministry may not extend the letter of credit (LC) to DataWind, the maker of Aakash.
The reason is the same, the standards of the device were set too low to save costs that it doesn’t meet the requirement of an individual user. In addition according to reports a lot of problems are found in the tablet.
Ironically, the same new sites which went gaga over Aakash are now calling its doom. ...
Intel’s first mobile phones confirmation comes at CES
January 12, 2012
The long-awaited confirmation of Intel’s first mobile phones came at CES, as Lenovo and Motorola confirmed they were working with the chipmaker, The Telegraph reported.
Lenovo’s K800 will launch in China in the second quarter of this year, while Motorola will gain regulatory approval in the summer and launch in the following months across Europe and America. The announcements mark Intel’s first tangible bid to challenge the smartphone dominance of British company Arm, whose chips power many of the world’s most popular phones. The rapidly expanding mobile market will, Intel hopes, complement its new laptops and other devices.
Paul Ottelini, the company’s chief executive, said the relationsh...
Let’s Watch Ubuntu TV, Right Now
January 9, 2012
The unveiling of Ubuntu TV at CES is I think the first right move Canonical has made in the consumer segment. All of its other attempts nose dived either because they were late or they were half baked. Ubuntu One and Ubuntu Music were the half baked products which failed to make any dent. Ubuntu on tablets is too late for having any ‘respectful’ place in the tablet segment dominated byAndroid and iOS. But Ubuntu TV is different. Ubuntu TV may be the first product which will not only make Ubuntu a household name, the way Android has become, but may also become a bread earner for Ubuntu from the consumer segment.
The company is already showcasing Ubuntu TV at CES 2012 and it...
Sony to sell 50% stake in LCD joint venture to Samsung
January 3, 2012
Sony Corp has agreed to sell its nearly 50 percent stake in an LCD joint venture with Samsung Electronics to Samsung for $940 million, the Korean firm said on Monday, Dec 26, as Sony struggles to staunch red ink at its TV business.
The venture cut its capital by 15 percent in July and industry sources had said Sony was negotiating an exit, aiming to switch to cheaper outsourcing for flat screens for its TVs while Samsung pushes ahead with next-generation displays.
Sony warned in November of a fourth straight year of losses for the financial year to next March, with its TV unit alone set to lose $2.2 billion on tumbling demand and a surging yen.
The maker of Bravia TVs and PlayStation game consoles said at the time it ...
Are Smart Phones The Cigarettes Of The Next Century?
December 29, 2011
Ten years ago we hadn’t heard of smart phones, but in the way that a new fashion craze sweeps through the population, they have rapidly made their way into our pockets, handbags and palms. These days, mobile internet means much more than connecting a laptop with a dongle. At the turn of the last century, it was all about style, fashion and jazz and the new, must-h...
Apple Lost Germany, Court May Allow Samsung To Sell Galaxy Tab
December 22, 2011
After Australia Apple has lost another ‘patent’ post, this time its Germany. A German court earlier banned the sale of Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Germany owing to ‘controversial’ design patents. The same design patents were rejected in a Dutch court. To respect the verdict, Samsung modified the design of its Galaxy Tab (which in fact enhances the user experiences as the speakers now face the user) and called it Galaxy Tab 10.1N.
Apple, as usual, was not happy with the design change and tried to get another injunction against the new tab. They failed. The German court has ruled that the new tab is quite different from the iPad and doesn’t infringe on any of Apple...
Google Nexus S gets official Android ICS update
December 19, 2011
If you decided to buy Google Nexus phone earlier this year than you are a lucky one. According to the official Nexus Twitter account, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update started rolling out today and will continue for the rest of the month to your device.
The update will be made available over-the-air, so you can manually check on your phone or wait for the notification to appear. This version is actually the 4.0.3 that was just announced by Google and even the Galaxy Nexus is not running it at the moment. Update is only available to the GSM/UMTS version of the Nexus S for the moment and not the CDMA version used by Sprint customers in the US.
Samsung To Put TouchWiz On Ice Cream Sandwich
December 15, 2011
I don’t know if you are a TouchWiz fan or not. If you don’t know what TouchWiz it then you probably wont care. TouchWiz is Samsung’s skin for Android devices. It offers some cool features and has its own share of fans and hater. Irrespective of that Samsung is determined to put TouchWiz on top of Ice Cream Sandwich on its Android 4.0 phones.
Samsung Firmware has published a video of Ice Cream Sandwich running on Samsung Galaxy S II phone. Which means you won’t see the cool UI that Google showed when they introduced ICS, the same ‘revolutionary’ UI that you saw on Galaxy Nexus phone....
