U.S. presidential candidate Newt Gingrich wins South Carolina primary
January 24, 2012
Former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich of Georgia won the Republican Party South Carolina presidential primary yesterday with 243,153 votes (40.4%). FormerMassachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who won the New Hampshire primary last week, came in second with 167,279 (27.8%). The result reflects a shift in polling just days before the election, following two Grand Old Party (GOP) debates and a highly publicized interview with Gingrich’s ex-wife.
In his victory speech, Gingrich criticized President Barack Obama and the “media elites”, and alluded to the well-funded Romney when arguing, “We don’t have the kind of m...
Android Tablets May Go Transparent, Soon!
January 23, 2012
Microsoft introduced the concept for tablets, Apple took it to the next level (and in the process also claimed that they ‘invented’ the tablet), and now Android will take tablets to the next level, into the future.
Samsung is working on display technologies which will make these tablets flexible (just like the paper magazines) and even transparent.
According to a Samsung post, “Tablets have come a long way since the first ones hit the market in 2010, but there’s still plenty of room for new innovations. In the near future, expect tablets to come fitted with augmented geo-location services, and gesture-controlled digital magazines, among many other features!”<...

How to Become a Successful Poet
January 20, 2012
Making a good living in the poetry genre is hard. However, it is not completely impossible. Here are some steps to show you how.
Steps
1. Read many different poems. Try to find out what has already been written, and NEVER copy ideas or stanzas.
2. Take inspiration from everywhere. Many poets take inspiration from nature, people, or events.
3. Listen to lots of music. It doesn’t have to have lyrics. Decide what genres you like and listen to a wide variety of artists.
4. Keep a “poetry journal”. Carry it everywhere you go, so that if you come up with a poem or idea, you can jot it down.
5. Keep a thesaurus handy. If you want to use a word...
Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Demo Reviewed
January 20, 2012
The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (KoAR) demo was released on Steam and I had a chance to put about an hour into it. I’ve been hard on the game in the past for it’s very generic nature in the marketing spins produced by it’s developer 38 Studios. Having played the demo now, I am still worried the title is a little bit too generic fantasy to rise above the field. However, there were a couple bright spots that gave me some hope for the game.
KoAR starts as almost any RPG starts by providing an origin story for the player’s character. In this case, the player’s avatar died on a foreign battlefield and their body dumped into the Well of Souls. As luck wou...
World economy will lose momentum in 2012 – polls
January 20, 2012
The world economy will lose momentum in 2012 but it will keep moving in the right direction, according to Reuters polls of around 600 economists who said crisis-hit Europe would drag on global growth.
Asian economies will again power the expansion of the world economy this year, but with relatively subdued performances. The United States, meanwhile, should continue to contribute modest growth that will easily outpace its recession-hit European peers. Brazil will be one of the few big economies that will pick up steam this year, outshining slower Latin American stablemates Mexico and Argentina.
A Reuters poll that covers all of the top 20 developed and emerging econom...

Israel approves harsher penalties for illegal migrants
January 19, 2012
Israel’s parliament has approved a bill that would make it possible to imprison illegal migrants for life over property crimes and detain them for up to three years without trial, AP reports.
The harsh penalties are aimed at trying to stanch a flood of illegal immigration from Africa. Critics say the new law is unconstitutional and tramples human rights.
Anyone caught helping migrants could face prison terms of up to 15 years.
The government estimates 50,000 Africans have illegally entered Israel since 2006. It says most seek a more comfortable life and are not fleeing persecution.
The influx has touched off a national debate. Some Israelis say the migrants are a burden and dilute Israel...
President Obama Rejects Keystone XL Pipeline
January 19, 2012

The Obama administration today formally rejected a bid by Canadian energy company TransCanada to build a $7 billion oil pipeline linking the tar sands of Alberta to refineries on the Gulf of Mexico.
The Keystone XL project, which was estimated to create thousands of U.S. jobs, became an election-year lightning rod, embroiling President
Obama, congressional Republicans, labor unions and interest groups in a heated debate over jobs and the environment.
The State Department, which holds the authority to approve or reject pipelines that cross an international boundary, said in November that it would delay a decision on Keystone to allow for further study of the environmental impact along its 1,700-mile route.
